Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review

After seeing the rating, you might have already understood that I loved this book. This is the first book in the Kalki trilogy. It’s an amazing blend of mythology, fantasy, fiction. The author has used the mythological characters to write a very different story.



So before I tell you more about the plot and characters, I want to tell you how I came across this book. This book released in January 2018 and at that time I was not a bookstagrammer nor did I start book blogging. So I had no idea about new releases. Around June 2018 I was travelling to Mumbai from Pune by train and there was a guy who was sitting next to me reading this book. I was intrigued to meet a fellow booklover, so after a short conversation he recommended me this book. He spoke about it so enthusiastically that I bought it soon. But I don’t remember why I didn’t read it for a longtime, it was just lying on my shelf. Then in the month of Dec 2018 I moved to Mumbai and while unpacking I found this book. The same day I read it. I was hooked, I couldn’t put down the book until I finished it and immediately ordered the second book.

So let’s discuss about the first book here.The book is inspired by Game of Thrones, Bahubali, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Kalki Purana, etc. The author has played around the characters and written a completely different story, it has nothing to do with the facts. The book is approximately 460 pages but it’s such an interesting read ghat I finished it in one sitting. It’s very well edited and fast paced.The story is completely based on the saying from Lord Govind, avatar of Vishnu that “Whenever there is a decline in righteousness and an upsurge in unrighteousness, at that time, I take birth again.”
The protagonist of the story Kalki is a normal village lad enjoying his life. On the other hand Lord Kali has captured Keeratpur and is also ruling many tribals. Sickness takes over Kali and his sister Durukti decides to find a solution to this. Durukti’s maid tells her about ‘Soma’ which is hidden in the cave of a nearby village (Kalki’s village) which can cure anything.

Durukti decides to go to the village of Shambala and get the Soma for her brother.There are many characters in the book, but still it is very easy to understand. There are Kalki’s parents, his brother Arjan, his best friend Bala, his love interest Lakshmi, her aunt Ratri, Kalki’s teacher Kripa, Kali, his sister Durukti, the leaders of various tribes,etc. But trust me, the story is very engaging.This first book is all about Kalki and Kali finding their paths towards Dharm and Adharm respectively and how they get their share of Soma and the battle of Shambala.Do I recommend it?
